OVERALL PROVINCIAL PROFILE

Midlands Province as the epicentre of the country located at the heart of Zimbabwe spreads over Surface Area 49 166km2 sharing boundaries with 6 Provinces except Manicaland, Mashonaland Central, Harare and Bulawayo.

Its total population of 1 614 941 million is made up of the Tonga, Ndebele, Karanga, Venda and Suthu spread over Gokwe North, Gokwe South, Kwekwe, Gweru, Chirumanzu, Shurugwi, Zvishavane and Mberengwa Districts. As the most urbanized province it boasts of six towns namely Gweru the provincial capital, Kwekwe, Shurugwi, Zvishavane, Gokwe Centre and Mvuma.

As the mineral hub of the country Midlands Boasts of 18 mined minerals. 33% of the Great Dyke is in Midlands and it possesses the highest gold deposits in the country according to current geological maps.

Midlands is also the second highest producer of cotton with the third highest herd of cattle that produces tasty meat a total of 30 irrigation schemes produce a variety of crops and there are a lot of tourist attractions.


Visiting Midlands


Midlands’ expanse under the geological regions II to V offers conducive warm to mild temperatures all year round. The scenic mountains in Shurugwi the Boterekwa mountain drive is a marvel to all visitors while the Antelope Park Game Park provides real touch with nature’s big five including elephant rides and sun basking with lions. The Chirisa Game Park in Gokwe and the Sherwood Conservancy are places not to miss.

To cap it all one should not miss the Gandavaroyi Falls a true attraction of Nature cast in the natural as yet untapped ventures in Gokwe. The big industries like Bata Shoe factory, Unki and Mimosa Platinum mines, Falcon Gold Mine, Portnex and Sino Zimbabwe Cement factories are places not to miss when one visits Midlands.

Trade
Midlands is connected by both road and rail to all provinces making it easy to transport goods by both road and rail anytime anywhere.

Opportunities for trade exist in minerals. One can trade in the abundant gold, the transportation of chrome ore, trading in asbestos, cotton, cattle products like meat or iron and steel products. There are opportunities to trade in platinum, emeralds, and lithium to mention just but a few of the Province’s trade opportunities.

Investment opportunities also exist in value adding coal to coke in Gokwe as well as cotton to cloth weaving in the rich cotton centres of Gokwe North and South. Given the limited accommodation in Midlands’s investment opportunities exist in the construction of five star hotels, lodges and camping facilities in the natural game parks. The biggest rail Dabuka Marshalling Yard offers immense investment opportunities in the rail industry as well as the construction of roads to such scenic places like Gandavaroyi in Gokwe. The absence of a big airport presence an opportunity for investing in air transport.
